How to Reuse Steel Bars on Construction Sites?

At present, there is a common situation in steel reinforcement engineering where serious losses are caused by poor control. How to reduce the loss of steel bars has become an important aspect of inspecting the management level of construction sites. Let's take a look at how to recycle steel bar waste at the construction site for reuse?

  • Develop project control measures:

Based on the drawings and the characteristics of this project, combined with the actual situation, subcontractors are required to strictly implement the use of short materials and develop management and control measures for short materials in this project. If it is found that the subcontractor does not meet the requirements, they will be warned and fined.

  • Reasonably set up steel bar joints and fully utilize short steel bar heads:

1) Reasonably arrange the steel bar joints of frame beams and frame columns to reduce the occurrence of short steel bars. According to 18G901-1, joints can be installed within the 1/4 section of the net span of the frame beam.

The height of the reinforced area of the frame column hoop shall be consistent with the height of the first joint above the floor, and no joints shall be set in the reinforced area. This helps to maintain the consistency of the length of the steel bars and reduce the cutting of steel bars caused by uneven joints, resulting in short ends.

2) Make full use of the backend steel processing to cut off the short ends of the steel bars. More than 1m is used as a stirrup crossbar, and less than 50cm is used as a stirrup bracket.

3) 80cm to 110cm steel bars are used to make column steel bar positioning hoops.

4) The wall thickness of this project is mostly 40cm, and according to actual needs, 5cm-50cm steel bars are used to make double F-clamps. 41cm-50cm steel bars are uniformly made into 40cm steel bars and used as crossbars for double F-clamps. A short head of 5cm<x<50cm can be cut into the "F-end" of a double F-card. Then weld it into a double F-card.

5) Short steel bars with a length of approximately 50cm to 70cm, ranging from Φ 16 to Φ 20, can be used to make ground anchors.

6) Short ends of steel bars smaller than Φ 16 can be fully utilized in secondary structures. Used for constructing columns, ring beams, etc.

Set up short material classification and stacking signs on site to clarify the main usage scope of each type of short material:

According to the connection specifications, the first level of mechanical connection joints for steel bars can be located at any position, reducing restrictions on the joint connection position (especially in secondary areas such as the second row of bars), thereby reducing the waste of steel bars caused by joint position limitations. Through planning and implementation, connect and extend the short materials generated during the project cutting process.

  • Secondary utilization of waste steel bars:

1) After the waste materials are lifted back to the processing plant, they are sorted and sorted before being reused or converted into hooks or processed into stirrups. For materials smaller than 300mm that cannot be used, they are placed in the waste pool for disposal.

2) In the actual on-site construction process, if there is an error in the sample of the hoop reinforcement or if the hoop reinforcement is scrapped due to changes in the drawings, the scrapped hoop reinforcement can be used for secondary purposes such as pulling hooks.

3) Can be used as reinforcement measures, such as positioning reinforcement and fixing wire box reinforcement.

4) The surplus materials are mechanically connected to form pipe piles and reinforced steel cores for use.
